One of the main roles of pediatric occupational therapists (OTs) is to support children's participation in activities that are important to them (aka their occupations). Usually for children, these activities have skills needed for their main occupation - PLAY.
Sometimes there are things that can impact a child's ability to participate in his/her everyday activities. Our goal as OTs is to assist and guide children so they grow to be confident in everyday life.
Some skills that pediatric OTs may work on in order to do this: sensory processing, self-regulation, self-care skills, fine motor skills, visual skills, gross motor skills, cognitive skills, and social skills to name a few.
Nature-based OT means using the outdoors as a natural setting to develop skills and abilities of children. Nature is the most powerful tool and the ultimate sensory experience for all - the wind in the face, birds chirping, feeling the ground under bare feet, rolling down the hill....the list goes on.
Veteran's Memorial Park in West Salem, WI and other locations as applicable.
Sure do! We use nature and all of its benefits as a therapy tool. We use the saying, "There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing." Grab your rain coat/boots, snow pants/boots, etc. and let's get outside!
There are a few occasions where conditions would be considered dangerous, even with proper clothing & gear. If the weather is truly too harsh, then the session will be rescheduled or possibly moved indoors within the community.
We are a fee for service provider, meaning that we are out of network with insurance and each client directly exchanges payment for service. This allows flexibility and gives you the choice of the kind of care you receive with us, including how much and how often. We are also able to create a treatment plan that is focused on the child's needs.
If you would like to submit your OT sessions to insurance for possible out of network reimbursement, we will provide you with an invoice (called a superbill) upon request. If you would like to request superbills, please let us know at your evaluation.
Reimbursement by your insurance company is not always guaranteed. We recommend to get in touch with your insurance company prior to your appointment to determine whether out of network provider services are covered, as well as the rates they are covered.
You do not need a referral in the state of Wisconsin. We are a direct access service, meaning you don't need a referral for an OT evaluation and/or treatment. That decision to pursue occupational therapy services is made by you.
If you are wanting to submit your superbill to your insurance provider (see above question) for reimbursement, your insurance provider may require a referral from your provider. Referral sources that are accepted include: chiropractors, physical therapists, podiatrists, nurse practitioners, physician's assistants, physicians, optometrists, psychologists or other health care professionals.
