A curated collection of answers, tools, and recommendations to support families in everyday life.

Some families aren’t sure where to start and that’s okay! A free 15-minute consult call is the easiest way to talk this through together and decide what feels like the best next step.

At this time, Grounded Roots OT does not accept insurance and operates as a private-pay practice This allows sessions to be more flexible, individualized, and centered around your family’s real needs and routines without the constraints or limitations that often come with insurance-based care.

Some families choose to submit a receipt to their insurance provider for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Coverage varies by plan, and we recommend contacting your insurance company directly to ask about out-of-network occupational therapy or educational services.

No. Families in Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota do not need a physical referral or order to begin occupational therapy services. These states allow direct access, meaning you can reach out and get started without first seeing a doctor.

That said, some insurance plans may still require a referral for reimbursement. Because we operate as a private-pay practice, a referral is not required to begin services. If you have questions about documentation or reimbursement, I’m always happy to help guide you.

Occupational therapy includes evaluation and treatment provided under state licensure and is designed to address specific functional challenges.

Parent education sessions are educational and supportive, focused on understanding development, regulation, and everyday routines. These sessions do NOT include assessment, diagnosis, or therapy and are often a great fit when families want guidance without formal intervention.

Both options are valuable - it’s about what best fits your needs.

Jenna works with children of all ages. Support is always tailored to the child’s developmental stage and the family’s goals and routines.

There’s no one-size-fits-all schedule. Some families benefit from ongoing sessions, while others find that a few focused visits or a single consult is enough to feel confident moving forward. Frequency is always discussed collaboratively and adjusted as needs change.

Yes. Outdoor sessions are offered year-round when appropriate. We prioritize safety, comfort, and your child’s needs, and adapt plans as needed based on weather and circumstances.

Comfort is key. Layers, weather-appropriate clothing, and shoes that allow for movement are usually best. We recommend clothing that can get a little messy and supports active play.

Families may also choose to bring a water bottle, any necessary comfort items as needed, and seasonal items as appropriate (hats, sunscreen, mittens, etc.)

Outdoor sessions take place in thoughtfully chosen, safe, and accessible locations. Specific details are shared in advance so families know exactly where to meet and what to expect.

No. In fact, it’s often most helpful to start with what you already have. Some families already own a carrier that can work well with a few adjustments. If a different option would be more supportive, we’ll talk through why and explore alternatives together.

Yes, absolutely. Fit checks and consultations often focus on improving comfort, positioning, and confidence using carriers families already own. Small changes can make a big difference.

Yes, and it’s encouraged whenever possible. Different bodies often prefer different carriers or carry styles. Having multiple caregivers present allows us to explore options that work well for each person and support shared caregiving.

That’s not uncommon and it doesn’t mean babywearing isn’t for you. Discomfort or frustration is usually related to fit, positioning, or mismatched expectations. With the right support, many families find babywearing feels completely different than past attempts.
